| VOLUNTEER WITH MINDWISE |
Currently MindWise has over 70 people volunteering in our Active 8 and Involve programmes, all of who have added enormous value to our organisation and without their support many of our activities and events would not be possible. Once the application process is complete, all volunteers also benefit from access to free training across a wide range of areas and they are reimbursed for all ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses they incur whilst volunteering. MindWise volunteer programmes are particularly keen to recruit, train and empower individuals with mental health issues (however programmes are open to everyone) to support our overall ethos of recovery and inclusion. Volunteers, as well as benefitting from free training, also get the opportunity to practice and develop new skills and to build their confidence and their experiences can also help them with their further study or employment prospects. There are many ways in which you can volunteer with MindWise, below are just a few of our current ‘volunteer vacancies’: Peer Mentor Volunteers (Involve Programme)Young people who after training, will take the skills and knowledge they learn back into their own community settings (schools, youth clubs, sports clubs, church groups etc) to signpost their peers who might be experiencing mental health difficulties towards appropriate forms of support. Peer Media Volunteers (Involve Programme)Young people who after training, will take the skills and knowledge they learn back into their own community settings (schools, youth clubs, sports clubs, church groups etc) to help raise awareness of mental illness and to challenge through education, negative attitudes. Charity Shop Volunteers (Active 8 Programme)People who after training, will help out at our charity shops in Banbridge and Magherafelt, sorting and merchandising stock and serving customers. Collection Box Volunteers (Active 8 Programme)People who will agree to take, place and manage 4 collection boxes to help raise funds for MindWise. Media Volunteers (Active 8 and Involve Programmes)People who after training, will use their skills to raise awareness of mental illness in a variety of ways such as, writing a piece for the newspapers, ‘staffing’ an information point at awareness events, acting as a volunteer speaker and giving a talk on basic mental health awareness or assisting at MindWise events such as our Annual General Meeting. Volunteer Tutors (Active 8 Programme)Many MindWise services benefit from the existing skills and talents of some of our volunteers who agree to come in a take ‘classes’ with our service areas on topics where they have skills and abilities, this can include areas such as; art, music, crafts, or photography.
