My name is Gavin and I’m co-leader of a Walking Group for MindWise in Belfast. I really enjoy my role in helping the clients in our group to have a great morning walk. I always used to tell friends that my week wasn’t complete without my voluntary work, but the recent lockdown resulted in MindWise (and all other charities) being closed for several months.
In July, our walking group was back. I felt so glad to return to my role and wore my MindWise t-shirt for our first walk since February. It was great to see the clients and my colleagues again and it felt like we hadn’t been away long at all! After a walk in Botanic Gardens, we went back to our regular walking route the following week, which we have walked every week since. I’m so happy to be back working for MindWise.
